Feeds
Overview
Feeds on Sonata are chronological, showing the most recent posts. There are currently two: Home feed and Explore feed.
The Home feed is made up only of posts from people you follow. If you unfollowed any of their channels, then posts in there will not show.
The Explore feed is made up of posts from all users on Sonata, except for those with very low amplification levels.
Both feeds are filtered based on your content preferences (in Settings>Your Experience) and your amplification settings (in the same setting page).
Feeds on Sonata allow for you to leave the page and return, without losing your place. When you load a feed, it is saved for a short time to your account. Only after a while, or when you press the 'Load New Notes' button will the feed refresh. This lets you explore everything that's been said at your own pace and without risk of loading the same content twice.
Amplification and Feeds
At amplification level -1, a user's content no longer appears in global feeds.
At amplification level -4, a user's content no longer appears on any one else's feeds, even when they follow that user.
This keeps socially unacceptable content away from those who may not wish to see it, and allows Sonata to avoid spreading it altogether.
Future Plans
We have big plans for feeds all over Sonata. We're planning to introduce location based feeds, letting you see what people are saying in a certain country or area. We're working on channel based feeds, as well as an equivalent to Bluesky's custom algorithm based feeds.
After this, we're planning to investigate if it's possible to create an algorithm based feed that eliminates the negatives while keeping the positives. Other platforms have taken a binary stance on this, but we're confident that something new is possible, as long as it is developed with full understanding of the issues and dangers.
We also plan to import live content from other platforms, like Mastodon and Bluesky and include this in feeds as well.
