Your Options:

  • You must have a name on record. However, unless you are a verified person, you are not obliged to give your real name.

Handle

Used for:

  • Identifying you throughout the website
  • Creating a unique URL that links to your profile and notes

Shared with:

  • Other Sonata users that interact with you
  • Non Sonata users that view your profile or see one of your public notes

Stored For:

  • Forever. If you close your Sonata account, we may keep this handle stored to keep it inaccessible to others, although any connection to you will have been removed. We may also allow it to be reallocated to another user.

Data Storage Format:

  • Plain text

Your Options:

  • You must have a handle on record. You may change your handle at a later time.

Email

Used for:

  • Signing in
  • Recovering your password
  • Contacting you directly (only possible for a short time after you enter your email, each time)

Date of Birth

Used for:

  • Allowing access to age appropriate material
  • Designating you for either an adult or child account.
  • If targeted advertising is on, we may use your date of birth to show you adverts intended for users of your age.

Your Options:

  • None - we do not verify that your date of birth is accurate. However, we do require under our terms of service that we understand your age correctly if you are under the age of 18.

Two Factor Logins

Location

Used for:

  • Showing content created by people with a close geographic location
  • If targeted advertising is on, we may use your approximate location to show you adverts intended for users in your area.

  • If not supplied or personalised advertising is turned off, we will be required to use your IP address to determine your approximate location instead.

Profile Location

Used for:

  • Publicly displaying your location on your profile.

Account Options

All options you choose for your account will be stored in key-value pairs.

Note Data

Every note you create will be stored in plain text, along with meta information concerning each note. Sonata may keep your note data indefinitely, along with any versions of any notes, even if you delete your account. As all notes are publicly available, third parties may also choose to keep copies of your notes indefinitely.

Extra Profile Data

Public data that you have given us to use publicly or privately on your profile.

Data that we recorded about you that we keep or use.

  • Following and interacting with other users and their notes

  • Your account status (active, deactivated)

Recorded Data

Data that we generated from your connection or your machine that we keep or use

IP Address

Used for:

  • Connecting to your device to deliver you content and receive information
  • Identifying you though password reset requests
  • If targeted advertising is off or on, we may use your country of access, devised from your IP address to deliver advertisements to you intended for audience in your country.

  • Third party content providers, to allow them to send your device required information:
